Fasting is an essential safety measure before any surgical procedure. During the operation, medications are administered intravenously, and fasting helps to prevent the risk of gastric reflux. This minimizes the chance of stomach contents entering the airways, which could cause complications.
What is allowed:
You may drink still water up to 2 hours before your scheduled arrival time.
What is not allowed within 6 hours prior to the procedure:
- Drinking milk, sodas, or fruit juices
- Eating any solid food
- Smoking
A light snack will be offered after the procedure, once the medical team has ensured you are fully stable.
